Eating For Success Breakfast For The Busy Corporate

The first place that we cut corners when we are busy or stressed is our eating and in particular our breakfast. The food you eat forms the very building blocks of your body, but most of us have lost sight of the fact that food is fuel and that the purpose of eating is to provide our bodies with the tools they need for energy, functioning, building and maintenance. We eat for a variety of different reasons, none of which relate to the idea of providing our bodies with quality fuel. We eat unconsciously, we use food to fill emotional voids or to be sociable and we fill our bodies with things that we all know aren’t good for us - in effect, rather than using food as essential fuel, we use it to inflict damage on ourselves.

Here are 3 options for a quick and easy, healthy breakfast to kick start your day. All recipes take only five minutes or less to prepare.

1. Protein Power Shake -
Mix in a blender - 1 piece of fruit i.e. banana or mango are divine

1. 1 handful of almonds (for protein and good fats)
2. Milk or Water for liquid (I use water to save the extra calories)
3. 1 dessertspoon of flaxseed oil (for good fats)
4. Cinnamon or nutmeg to taste

2. Protein Pan Cakes -

1. Beat 2 tablespoons of raw rolled oats into 2 egg whites and cook on a hot pan (no oil)
2. Top with a piece of fruit chopped up, low fat cottage cheese and some real maple syrup or honey.

3. Cottage Cheese, Nuts and Fruit - This is the quickest, cut up a piece of fruit, top with a handful of raw almonds and some low fat cottage cheese. Eat and go.

All of these quick breakfasts can be prepared and eaten at home in a space where you can mentally prepare for the day. Eating on the run at work is not feeding your body energy.

Start the day with a simple breakfast at home.

Close Kept Secrets to Weight Loss Lesson #46

I was asked a question recently and thought I would pose the same question to you.

What monetary value do you put on your health?

Think about this. You put a monetary value on your home, on your car, on your furniture..all these things have a monetary value and yet they can be replaced.

Now, let’s look at your health. Is it irreplaceable?

I asked a friend this same question, and she said her health is priceless. Well, what exactly does priceless mean in the context of health.

Before we do this, let’s look at an heirloom which is considered priceless to many. Thus, it’s irreplaceable. You take care of that heirloom. You place it in a space that is protected. You focus on that heirloom with such profound love because you want it to last so you can pass it on to family members. The intent is this heirloom stays in wonderful condition in order to preserve its meaning to all the family who will care for it for years to come. We look at that heirloom and say this is a part of us and it has incredible value.

Well if our health is priceless, then shouldn’t we be treating it in the same respect as our heirloom? Shouldn’t we be preserving our health and loving our bodies so that our family gets the benefit of what meaning we serve in their lives.

Yet, how many of us actually do this on a conscious level?

Most of the population doesn’t take the time nor invest in themselves monetarily choosing those things that will affirm nurturing, love and protection for its most valuable heirloom - YOU! Giving to ourselves each and everyday and investing in those things that affirm health is the most valuable thing you can give your family.

Which would you rather give your family? A necklace passed down from your great grandmother or a healthy, vibrant YOU filled with love for yourself? Which one has more value to pass down from generation to generation?

I can speak about this as my mother died in 1987. I have my mother’s wedding rings that I will pass on, and they do have great meaning. However, I would choose to have a mother who knew how to love herself, who knew how to take care of herself so that I could have learned from her in how to do this for myself. What greater gift is there to pass on?

I spent many years in struggle not understanding how to love myself. It wasn’t just from my mother; it was from my father as well. Neither one of them knew how to love themselves.

Guess what? Now, I have learned how to do this, and am showing my daughter, Lindsay, what this looks like. She, in turn, is finding incredible value from this as she is understanding and taking action in how to do this for herself. As a 21 year old intelligent, beautiful woman, she does the following:

eats nutritious foods
exercises
surrounds herself with positive people
reads spiritual books
loves spending time with herself
gets massages
sees a Naturopathic doctor and nutritionist
sees a chiropractor
dates a young man who treats her with kindness
a senior at the University of Washington majoring in business, and regularly makes the Dean’s list

I am so proud of Lindsay. This picture of her would have looked much different if I hadn’t learned how to lead by example

So let’s go back to my original question. What monetary value do you put on your health?

My answer to this question is.over a million dollars. Thus, I choose to invest my money where I will get the greatest return and that is in myself and Lindsay to keep affirming loving ourselves. Look at this priceless gift that will be passed down to generations to come. Is it worth it? Every penny!

I think of the money that it cost me when I lived in struggle, the energy and the time. Then I have to figure in the monetary amount impact to everyone else when I didn’t love myself.

Protect and nurture YOU to pass down the value to your future generations.

7 Ways to Make Your Immune System Work More

Did you know that most winter flues start a MONTH before you feel them - if not
more? Yes, that’s right. Even if you are feeling healthy, you have a good chance of
getting sick if you aren’t paying close attention.

I admit I’ve done it myself. Sometimes I get all pumped up with the holidays in
December, stay up late wrapping presents, meet people for one to0 many festive
dinners out and come January I’ve lost my zest. Or sometimes even February. For
some reason we think that we can add in a ton of activities, food we don’t usually
eat and family gatherings all in 3 short weeks and then proceed as normal. That
approach just lost you your energy.

Ever go on vacation and find yourself sick. Guess whose body just got a chance to
“re-coop”?

The first time I ever really experienced this phenomena was in high school - it was
my senior year and I was working really hard as cheerleader captain (Hey, this is a
serious story!) for an upcoming competition. We placed third, but I missed the last
big basketball game of my senior year 1 week later because all my exhaustion had
caught up with me and I was home with the flue. It was very sad. (I’m over it now.)

The good news is there are a few simple things you can do to prevent “Winter Flues”
from happening so much or even at all. Here’s a simple checklist of what you can do
to increase your immunity right now:

1. Stay active.

This time of year any good party, vacation or company can pull you away from your
regular movement routine. Don’t let the entire month of December take you away.
You can stay active even in the middle of celebrating. You just need to adjust.
Instead of saying, “Oh, I can’t go to my dance class because I have such and such.
Oh, well.” Say, ” Where can I find 15-30 minutes to be active today since I’ll be
missing my dance class?” This lets you continue self-care even as the party glasses
are clinking and gifts are being opened.

2. Spice it up.

When it comes to flu prevention take ACTION by using spices to your advantage:

Add to your cooking:

lots of fresh ginger
fresh garlic

hot peppers

ginsing paste

Make a tea:

ginsing paste, honey and hot water

Chinese Herb:

Andrographis paniculata - a potent cold-fighting herb recommended by the World
Health Organization.

3. Breathe and relax.

Stress is one of the main causes of winter illness. To keep this in check take breath
breaks throughout the day - especially during these holiday times. Simply close your
eyes: take a few conscious deep breathes: inhale in, exhale out. If you are in a place
where you can place your hands on your abdomen or on your heart this will help
calm you as well.

4. Antioxidant yourself.

I highly recommend including fruits and vegetables high in antioxidants for this
time of year. Don’t just go with what you usually eat instead choose with a boost in
mind.

Fruits:
clementines

oranges
kiwis

Vegetables:
peppers

spinach

broccoli

Remember you have a lot of valuable “options” even at this time of year and
anything extra you can do to give your system a push in the right direction.

5.Sleep tight.

Try calling it a night sooner than later at this darker time of the year. If your nights
are really packed with activity or your mind is just “awake” with anticipation then
take a hot-water bottle to bed. I know this may sound silly or like old-fashioned
advice, but your body will be soothed by connecting to the warm water in the bottle

6. Fresh herbs.

Growing your own herbs in an indoor window box is a great way to keep yourself
“fresh” during the cold months. Fresh thyme, parsley and rosemary help with
circulation and digestion. The benefits from fresh COMPLETELY outweigh the use of
dry.

7. Bodywork.

Murphy’s Law says no matter what, something occasionally will go wrong. Whether
it’s your back, shoulder or just body tension for those of us living in colder
temperatures. Don’t try to go it a lone. Find a practitioner that offesr what you enjoy
and that you click with. Don’t be afraid to keep searching for the right match. There
are some wonderful alternative forms of bodywork available. Think about working
with someone who offers:

Thai Yoga Massage
Pilates
Feldenkreis
Yoga
